CASE STUDY: Predict & Prevent

The Client

Synergis Technologies Limited is a new technology commercialisation firm working with universities and Public Sector Research Establishments (PSRE’s) to help take cutting edge technologies to market by investing in seed and early stage companies, providing a range of business building services and assisting IP owners with technology transfer/commercialisation practices.

The Challenge

i-RAS Solutions Limited were invited to conduct a Health Check of the organisation’s IT Systems. A number of issues were uncovered. It became apparent that lack of standardization, control and networked facilities were providing a serious threat to business efficiency with the added implication of potential data loss. In addition to this, directors were losing valuable time caused by a lack of networked access. This resulted in the organisation’s business efficiency being drastically compromised. Recent expansion to the Synergis Technologies team and a forthcoming Office move provided the opportunity for Synergis Technologies to completely readdress their IT infrastructure and working practices.

“Ultimately our aim was to introduce standardisation, stability and efficiency to our working environment. This task was complicated by the need for exceptional support services without having to recruit dedicated IT staff internally” said Anne Wilson, Synergis Technologies Office Manager. An outsourced service was sought. “We went to the marketplace and engaged a number of known IT service providers with our requirements. This exercise raised concerns with an IT Service Provider’s ability to meet our diverse needs. We were looking for a partner that was totally engaged with our strategic objectives and was not simply out for a piece of our IT budget” said Ms. Wilson.

The Recommendation

i-RAS Solutions proposed the implementation of a standardised networked environment with full access made available from secure internet connections outside of the head office in London. In addition to this mobile devices and PDA’s were implemented to facilitate the constant availability of the staff and Directors, via Voice, Email and Instant Messaging services. This was further complicated by the need for some Directors to access email from a Parent Company, and this too was implemented as part of the solution.

The Result

After careful consideration a network infrastructure was implemented to coincide with the office move. By being offered a dedicated single point of contact for managing the project, backed up by a team of technical consultants, Synergis Technologies were able to rely on i-RAS Solutions to provide every aspect of their IT requirement, from Internet Connection to plugging the systems in, ensuring seamless full connectivity for the team when they returned to work, with the added luxury of flexibility and remote access.
